Dear friends,
Have you ever looked for something at night and not found it, but the next morning you find it? That happened to me last night. I looked for a book in the places where I thought it would be, but couldn’t see it. Just before starting to write this blog post, I found the book near my computer. I also found a book that contains insights from God’s Word.
In “Man of God – Strong to Serve” David R. Schmitt shares insights from the Bible, beginning with a devotion about waiting. He writes: “Waiting is hard. We are more comfortable working. Try sitting with no cell phone, no computer, no talking, no texting. Just sit … and wait… Waiting is never easy. But remember one thing: when there`s nothing to do, it doesn’t mean that nothing is being done. You have a God who is watching and working for you.”
This week Karen and I have experienced times of waiting, including close to an hour in traffic. We had a choice: complain or commit the time to rejoice in the goodness of God while listening to songs of worship. We’re so blessed to have access to many ways to praise God, including videos, audio messages and songs.
Last Sunday, Pastor Brad Mellette preached a message based on Isaiah 25 and 26. In the Study Bible that I take to church, the title above Chapter 25 is: “Praise to God.” The sermon that Pastor Brad preached examines how God subdues and how He is our stronghold, our provider, our Saviour, and our comforter. Whether you have been walking with the Lord for a long time or a short time, you would do well to meditate on these truths. You can see the entire worship service at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKm2fpd9qHw
As we study God’s Word, we will see how much the Lord desires that His children delight in Him and share with others that He loves them more than they can imagine.
Scripture for the weekend: “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
Thought for the weekend: “Nowhere do we imitate God more than in showing mercy.” – Albert Barnes
