Last week, I wrote about what Karen and I shared at our daughter’s wedding on June 11. The word “torch” can be represented as an acrostic, with the first letter representing the word “trust.”
T – Trust in the Lord with all your heart – Proverbs 3:5
O – Open your heart to the Lord and to each other. Obey God’s Word and God’s will – Proverbs 3:5-8. We must trust God with all our heart and obey Him in all our ways. That means total commitment to Him (Romans 12:1-2). The word translated “trust” in Proverbs 3:5 means “to lie helpless, facedown.” It pictures a servant waiting for the master’s command in readiness to obey, or a defeated soldier yielding himself to the conquering general.
In his Study Bible, Dr. David Jeremiah looks at the word “beseech” in Romans 12:1 – “Beseech is the Greek verb parakaleo. It consists of para (“beside”) and kaleo (“to call”) and literally means “to call to, exhort, or urge.” Parakaleo is used 54 times in Paul’s epistles, demonstrating his heart as a counselor and encourager to the infant church rather than a demanding authority over them. A related word is parakletos, or “the Paraclete,” the descriptive name given to the Holy Spirit, who comes alongside the faithful to encourage and exhort them in their walk with Christ (John 14:16, 26; 15:26; 16:7).”
May we determine to walk closely with our Lord and with the loved ones in our life.
Scripture for the weekend: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:1-2 (NKJV)
Thought for the weekend: “Let the world know the difference Jesus makes. The psalmist exhorts, ‘Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has redeemed from trouble.’” – H.B. Charles, Jr.
