Aches and Praise Seven Hundred and Seven

Dear friends,

Do you sometimes have a song in your head and realize that the words are just what you needed to give you a boost? Here is what I have been “singing” in my head this week:

“Friend I’m excited about a solution that the whole world can shout and sing – that Jesus Christ is still the King of kings.” Thanks to the Internet, I found that I had only remembered a very small part of this song by Dallas Holm. Here are some of the lyrics:

“Get all excited
Go tell everybody that
Jesus Christ is King
I said, Get all excited
Go tell everybody that
Jesus Christ is King
Won’t you get all excited
Go tell everybody that
Jesus Christ is King
Jesus Christ is still
The King of kings

Well, you talk about people
You talk about things that really
Aren’t important at all
You talk about weather
You talk about problems we have
Here at home and abroad
But friend I’m excited
About a solution for the world
I’m gonna shout and sing, and it’s
Jesus Christ is still the King of kings”

If you’re like most Canadians, you talk about weather a lot. Even though there is a lot to talk about, there are many changes over which we have no control. We can focus on how loving and gracious God is and how much we should thank Him.

This past weekend, Karen and I were blessed to be with church family at the Missions conference. In talking with David and Kathy Cook, we learned that we had many friends in common that they met before going to serve the Lord in Thailand. How wonderful it will be in heaven to see family and friends that we didn’t know had asked God’s forgiveness for their sins and come into a personal relationship with the Lord.

On Sunday, Jerad Mellette preached about opportunities and adversity, based on the apostle Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 16:9 – “for a wide door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many adversaries”(ESV). Serving the Lord. alongside his wife, Wanda, has brought many opportunities to share the gospel with people in many places. You can hear what the Word of God teaches about opportunities and adversity, as well as the entire worship service at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJ-_78HM3Zk

May the name of our King, the Lord Jesus, be praised!

Scripture for the weekend: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NASB) .

Thought for the weekend: “The less I pray, the harder it gets; the more I pray, the better it goes.” – Martin Luther.

By His grace,

Steve
