If I were to ask you what you think of when you hear “www” what would you answer? Most likely, you would say “world wide web.” I also thought of an author whose initials are WWW: Warren W. Wiersbe. Dr. Wiersbe pastored the Moody Church in Chicago and served as General Director of “Back to the Bible Broadcast.” When I think of “Back to the Bible Broadcast” I am reminded that a man who was serving there in 1955 had a burden to share the gospel with French-speaking people and began the ministry of “La Voix de l’Évangile.”
In his book “Be Ready” the late Dr. Wiersbe recounts: “A father took his son to a large city museum, thinking that the visit would entertain the boy. But for two hours the lad did nothing but sigh and complain. Finally in desperation he said to his father, ‘Dad, let’s go someplace where things are real!’
Some people feel that way when they read the Bible. They think they are in a religious museum, looking at ancient artifacts that have no meaning for life in today’s scientific world. But they are wrong. No book published has more meaning for our lives, and more relevance to our problems, than the Bible. No wonder William Lyon Phelps, for years called ‘Yale’s most inspiring professor,’ said: ‘I believe a knowledge of the Bible without a college course is more valuable than a college course without a Bible.’”
I am glad that I was able to take some Bible courses from Moody Bible Institute when I was young. I enjoyed reading insights from different authors and realized that the more I learned, the more I wanted to search the Scriptures for God’s counsel.
Thanks to the Internet, people can listen to the teaching and preaching of God’s Word. One message that I would highly recommend is by Pastor Steve Thiel: https://www.christproclamation.org/sermons/sermon/2024-09-15/always-the-gospel. For those who don’t have access to the Internet, here is the outline of his sermon:
Sermon Theme: Whether it’s in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, Manchester or
Windsor, it’s always the gospel that must be proclaimed. And the conversion
of souls and the hope of eternal life provide all the motivation that we need to
remain faithful to the gospel mission, even in the midst of persecution.
