This morning Karen and I took our car to our mechanic to have the winter tires installed. Although it might not snow for a few more weeks, we wanted to be ready in case it does.
As we prepare for colder days ahead, we also want to prepare for the return of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In thinking about the changes that have occurred this year in our land and in the lives of family and friends, we take comfort in the words of the apostle Paul: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind”2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV).
In the edition of the Bible that I am reading today, the introductory notes to Paul’s second epistle to Timothy begins: “Prison is the last place from which to expect a letter of encouragement, but that is where Paul’s second letter to Timothy originates. He begins by assuring Timothy of his continuing love and prayers, and reminds him of his spiritual heritage and responsibilities. Only the one who perseveres, whether as a soldier, athlete, farmer or minister of Jesus Christ, will reap the reward.” That struck me as reinforcing what I included in last week’s blog post: a sermon by Dr. Scott Solberg on the subject “Persistence.”

Last Sunday, we learned that several people in our church have been going through difficult times. Please pray for Ann, who had emergency surgery on a detached retina and for Melissa, who has been experiencing a lot of pain. Please pray also for Rodney, who was in church after being hospitalized recently.
In opening the Bible in our radio follow-up office this morning, I found a paper on which Karen’s father had written some notes. It was dated January 13, 2015, just a few weeks before he went to be with the Lord. We are grateful for the godly heritage that the Lord gave us and pray for the salvation and spiritual growth of all who listen to the weekly messages of Pastor Michel Martel, who has been the speaker of “La Voix de l’Évangile” since 1984.
